Best way to sell mockup templates?

Hi there y’all
I am just getting into creating mockups for sale and have a question before continuing. I already made 1 mockup template and did this going all the way. I spent a lot of time making smart objects and trying to do it as professionally and user-friendly as possible.

Now my question to you guys is, is it worth spending all that extra time making the smart objects? Or should I simply just sell the photo as is, a simple jpg-file, for users to insert or overlay their own graphics?

I guess what I wish I knew is, what are most buyers looking for? What are their needs? Do they mostly just want photos, or do they mostly want smart object templates?

Here is the mockup that I made, any feedback would be much appreciated

Thank you, for taking the time to read my post

Hi @Xienna,

Great question! I think that really depends on the type of customer you are marketing to.
Many of our customers are crafters and do not have programs such as Photoshop to edit the smart layers. They will be looking for flat photos that they can easily apply designs to.

However if you are marketing to designers, many will prefer smart layers (myself included). I tend to only purchase mockups if I can remove the background and alter colours/shadows etc.

If you’re not planning on including both types of file in your listing, it is very important to state what programs will be needed to use the mockup and also to mention if it is a flat image.

Hi Xienna!! I absolutely LOVE this mockup, and your presentation!

I agree with Steph, there is a large market that only looks for flat mockups, as it’s easy to just layer the design on top. But there is definitely a market for these types of mockups as well!

You may consider making a few of each, and list them on DesignBundles to see which is more popular. Keep up the great work!!

Thank you for your feedback, you are right of course. I have decided to make both a mockup version and a stock photo version going forward. That way it is easier to correctly tag and market it and also it will cost less if you don’t really need the full mockup
