I made masks so I can go to the doctor without spewing virus on everyone!

I started making masks during the times I feel decent, since they seemed like a good idea even before the CDC recommended everyone wear them when they go out. I still haven’t perfected the process and I’m still learning the sewing machine, but I’m pretty happy with what I’ve made so far!

Now that I found a shop that had the Cameo 4 rotary blades in stock, I bought one and am trying to figure out the settings to make it cut my mask pieces. I love everything about sewing except cutting the pieces out, so this is ideal!

If you’re looking for a rotary blade for your Cameo 4, check your local Michael’s. Their online store was sold out, but both the local shops had them in stock. I was able to buy it online, pay with paypal, and they even brought my bag out to my husband- he didn’t even need to go inside! They won’t ship them, though, so you will have to actually go to the store. I think it’s worth it, though!

Hopefully in a few more days I’ll have some more cute masks to share! Is anyone else making masks? Do you have a favorite pattern? Do you prefer ties or elastic to keep them on?

That is so awesome that you can cut it on your machine. I tried with the regular blade but didnt have much luck

@Stephanie_J Thank you! I agree, they have personality! I’m planning to make masks using owl fabric, fabric with balloons on it, … I just like fun things if I can!

@Brittany_P Eh, the blade is cutting felt beautifully, but I can’t quite figure out the mask fabrics I have yet. I may just cut them by hand, as much as I dislike doing it. And thank you!!

@Stephanie_J Same here…I love them! Years ago I read a webcomic that repurposed “yolo” and made it mean “you obviously love owls!”

That’s great! I obviously do… I even included ‘Owl’ in my business name hehe

Such a great idea!! Lots of people making masks right now and they look so much better in funky fabrics.

@SarahEvans agree! We may have to do certain things, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it!

These are great. Sure you could find other items to create in a similar vein (which are not quite as urgent as the masks, right now).

This is true. My biggest issue right now is trying to get over Covid…it is seriously exhausting! I’m looking forward to getting back to normal, although I’m beginning to forget what that was…

I do hope you are safe and well! I’m struggling with home schooling (equivalent fractions, prepositions, time connections etc. and this is only primary school!) but that is all put well and truly in to perspective with the devastation being caused and felt elsewhere.

I’m very lucky, in that while I’ve been sick for what seems like ages I’m not in need of a hospital…it’s frustrating, but I’m safe. Thank you for asking!

Oh man! I don’t think I could do homeschooling! You’re amazing!

I’m far from amazing. That’ll be the wife! Good luck with everything!
