Using the Smudge Tool in Procreate

If you’re not using the Smudge Tool in Procreate yet, you should try it out! You can do so many things with it from blending out shadows, creating watercolor effects, and more. The smudge tool is the little finger icon in between the brush and eraser.

For this example I’m going to start out with these colors:

Then we’re going to hit the Adjustments panel and select liquify.

These are the settings I’m using to get this twirl effect. I just held down in one spot until I got the twirl I liked!

Then in the Smudge panel I’m going to go under the Painting category and select Watercolor. All of the brushes you have in Procreate will be under the Brush, Smudge, and Eraser panels.

The color you start from will drag the color over. For example, if I started in the blue it would push the blue into the green and vice versa.

After it’s all done, this is what I ended up with:
