What a super, super fun printable top hat template with an epic steam punk funky gothic style design. You can add extra elements and photos either digitally or physically to the hat. This is one of my most popular paper projects to date. So, I had to share it here, in Plus. It's been upgraded considerably and it is not an easy project this time. There are a lot of variables to consider when attempting this advanced paper project.
If you do get all of the variables just right, it could be a super easy project. Go through our gallery for some tips and tricks. Take a deep breath before you get started and consider starting off with a blank template and flimsy paper before printing. I've made this hat at least half a dozen times and it is always different!
Try doing the base of the hat first, the bottom and then the top. Try putting them all together at the same time. Inching your way around the hat with the prongs or tabs of both the top and bottom, sealing the middle of the hat, last. The simplest way to make the hat is to roll your base, and adhere it. Cut out the bottom and top as full circles, cutting off any excess if necessary. (You could use the template for this. Just ignore the white cross and cut off the tabs of the top.) Adhere the base to the bottom and the top and voila.
I got a lot more versatility or forgiveness by cutting each triangle on the bottom, right down the middle. It was a little easier when I ditched every other tab on the top of the hat as well. It depends on just how exact you cut the template, the weight of the paper you use and the kind of adhesive used. I liked tape with a medium weight paper.
For the best printing results, use slightly glossy or glossy paper and check your printer settings.
The hat as is, measures about 3 1/2 high and 4 inches wide. You could separate each form on to its own piece of paper or new document, in your software and enlarge it.
