Once you have opened DesignScape, create a new project with the standard Pinterest dimensions of 1000 x 1500px. We also set our DPI to 300.

For this tutorial we will be using a mug mockup design, this sunflower sublimation and a fun font duo called Freshly Baked. For our design element we are using a girl and flowers illustration.

Step 1 - Create a Smart Object

A template is far easier to edit when you have Smart Object placeholders. These placeholders, when doubled clicked, open a new window where you can edit as you wish.

On the left hand side toolbar, click on the Shapes tool. At the top toolbar, click on the color boxes for the Fill and Stroke. Make sure to click on the box with the red line through it for both of them. This will remove the Fill and Stroke.

Now choose the Rectangle Tool, then click on the canvas. A new window will open where you can input the values for more accuracy. We used a Width of 1000 and Height of 700 px.

You may need to reposition the rectangle so it snaps to the top of the document. To turn on snapping go to View > Snap. Then click on the Move Tool top left and make sure the box for Transform controls is ticked. You can now click + drag to reposition the rectangle and it will snap to the corners of the document.

In the Layers Panel on the right, make sure that the Rectangle layer is selected. Next, right click > Convert to Smart Object. You can also rename the layer as an indication to double click to edit.

Step 2 - Add Elements to Smart Object

We want to add customized text and an element to our Smart Object. So, under the Layers Panel, double click on the Smart Object layer to open a new window.

Here you can add text, or any other elements that you want. We used our duo font and created three separate text objects. We also adjusted the color, size and positioning to our liking.

To change the rectangle color, click on the eff icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel. Then select Color Overlay.

In the Layer Style window, click on the Color Picker box, then choose a color. Click on OK to save the changes, then click OK one more time.

We dragged and dropped our character element into the Smart Object file. Then we clicked + dragged the layer so that it was placed between two text objects. Further adjustments were made to the positioning of all elements.

We now need to save this Smart Object in order for it to be updated on the template. Go to File > Save (Smart Object). DesignScape will notify you that the Smart Object has been updated.

You can click on the “X” to close out of the Smart Object. Go back to the Pinterest template to see the changes we made.

You can go back and edit at any time by double clicking on the Smart Object layer.

Step 3 - Add Mug Mockup to the Template

We are now ready to add and edit the mug mockup. A Smart Object mockup works in exactly the same way as the one we just created in Step 2. We added a sublimation design to the mug mockup, then saved the result as a JPEG.

On our Pinterest template, we dragged + dropped the JPEG then repositioned it as needed. We also moved the layer down one beneath the Smart Object we created.

Step 4 - Finish up the Pinterest Template

We want to add one more finishing touch to our Pinterest Template. This is more of a personal preference, so you can add this if you want to or not. You don’t need to create a placeholder for this.

All we did was use the Text Tool on the left side toolbar. We typed out our text, changed the font and color then repositioned it at the bottom of the Pinterest Template.

The final step is to save a JPEG file to upload to Pinterest, then save as a PSD file template. Go to File > Export as > JPG and choose your settings.

Finally, go back to File > Save as PSD. Give your file a name and save to your required location. You can now go back and edit your Pinterest template in DesignScape whenever you want.
