Seller Spotlight: July Digital Images

JulyDigitalImages caught our attention after we saw their Rolled Paper Flower Template trending in the Paper Cutting category. Read on to discover Julia’s creative process, top tips for other sellers, future goals, and so much more.

Hey Julia! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello. My name is Julia. I live in Russia in a small town in the Rostov region. I live in my own house with my children. We live with two cats and two dogs. I started selling on the Design Bundles in 2019. I really like this marketplace and I am happy to post my designs here. My designs are files for cutting machines such as Silhouette Cameo, I think some of them will work for laser cutting as well.

I really enjoy creating my projects and I try to do it as often and for as long as possible, but this does not always work out because I have a lot of household chores and other hobbies. When I have inspiration, I can create my designs from morning tonight and I can't stop doing it because I want to do it over and over again.

Unfortunately, there are periods in my life when inspiration leaves me and then I cannot bring myself to create at least something. Fortunately, this rarely happens. In my free time, I like to read interesting books, follow the news happening in the world, train my dogs, take care of my collection of violets. I have over a hundred varieties of violets. I really love to admire them when they bloom.

What is your favorite product to design, and how did you discover it as a niche?

My favorite thing is to create SVG files for cutting. I've been interested in graphic design for a long time. I started out by drawing bitmaps in Adobe Photoshop. I was fond of this for a while, but did not sell my designs. This continued until my daughter was presented with the Silhouette Cameo. I discovered vector graphics. I liked creating vector illustrations much more than raster ones. I learned to work in Adobe Illustrator and started my small business with Design Bundles.

How would you describe your style? 

I would describe my design style as filigree or delicate, if I may say so. I really love creating designs with a floral theme with swirling lines. I work on each of my designs for a long time and carefully because every time I want to create something original and beautiful.

At the same time, I try not to forget that my intricate patterns are for cutting. I try to cut each one of them on my Silhouette Cameo before putting it up for sale.

I really love this filigree style, but I also try to master other styles. For example, I like to create funny characters.

What (or who) inspires you to make new designs?

Every time I am going to create my next design, I have no idea what I will get. First, I take a pencil and a piece of paper and start fantasizing. In this case, you often have to erase with an eraser and draw again. Then I finish my work in the vector editor. If my fantasy is running out and I can't imagine a new pattern, I put my project aside and take a break. After a while, my imagination starts to work and I can finish my pattern.

What does a typical day look like for you behind the scenes?

I usually wake up at 9 o'clock in the morning, feed my pets, take care of my violets, go through emails and reply to them, create my designs, learn English. In between these sessions, I work out on sport simulators, play with pets, care for violets and do household chores. In the evening before going to bed, I watch an interesting movie or read a book.

I feel like a pretty happy and free person because I don't have to go to work every day. I can be at home, do my favorite thing and earn money on it.

What is your designing tool (or tools) of choice?

I sketch on paper and then use Adobe Illustrator to create a vector drawing. I cut out my designs with Silhouette Cameo.

I draw mostly on a computer using my computer mouse. Sometimes I use a touchscreen graphics tablet and draw with a pen.

What's something you wish you knew when you started designing?

I didn't know English at all when I started to create my designs. It was difficult for me to communicate with customers, so I would like to know better English. Knowledge of English would also help me understand which designs are trending. I think this could increase my sales.

What tips do you have for any new designers wanting to start selling?

Feel free to experiment. And if you have conceived something, then implement it! Do not imitate, but try to find your idea!

Do quality things and try to understand your customer - these are the main ingredients for success.

What is your proudest achievement since opening your Design Bundles shop?

I am quite happy with the number of sales and my earningsfor the entire time of working with Design Bundles. My plans for the future are to create more good and different designs, to further increase the number of sales and my earnings.
