World Down Syndrome Day is March 21 each year. March, the 3rd month stands for the 3 copies of chromosome 21. And the 21st day stands for the 21st chromosome. This design is done in the colours adopted to show awareness for Down syndrome - blue and yellow. Although each component is on a separate layer and you can easily choose different colours to mix and match. The socks resemble these quirky little chromosomes and have been adopted as a popular symbol for Down syndrome awareness.
