Before we begin, you need to gather your drawing materials. Use your favorite drawing medium, such as traditional or digital tools. Use anything you can illustrate with and apply color, such as paint or crayons. Once you have your materials ready, we can get started with the steps.

Step 1 - Roughly Sketch the Bat

Let's begin this drawing guide by combining basic shapes for our rough bat sketch. This step uses a sketching medium like a pencil or light-colored tool.

Create the Main Shape

Begin drawing a small circle for the head of the bat (shown in red). Then, draw a larger oval shape below the head for the body, as we did in our example sketch below.

Shape the bat's head and body

On the head, draw two triangular shapes to create the ears. And sketch the feet with three bumps at the bottom of the body.

To draw the wings, draw two long, curved lines, starting at the head. Then, draw a series of curved lines to connect the top wing line to the body.

Add the Face

Now it's time to add detail to the bat's face. Draw two small circles for the eyes and a small heart shape for the nose with dots for the nostrils.

Then, draw a curved line under the nose to create a mouth with pointed teeth at the ends.

Add Details

Give your bat character by adding additional details. Start with the wings and draw lines connecting from the top center that extend toward the peaks at the bottom. Create a second line inside the ears and add jagged edges around the head for hair.

Step 2 - Create your Bat Outline

Switch to a darker medium to create your outline. You can use an ink Procreate brush, marker, or permanent medium. This will create precise line art for a clean design to apply color.

Main Outline

Begin tracing around the main shapes of the body and wings. Be sure to follow the contours, paying attention to the curves and angles.
