How to Draw a Ring
Say I do in just 4 steps with our drawing guide on how to draw a ring
In today’s easy-to-follow tutorial, we will teach you how to draw a ring step-by-step. With basic shapes and attention to detail, your ring will be illustrated quickly. This drawing guide is excellent for fancy wedding clipart to sublimate onto t-shirts, print on stickers for the big day, or add to a custom wedding timeline program for your guests.
Before you begin this tutorial, get your art supplies ready. You can use anything you have on hand with our free drawing tutorial. This can include painting, crayons, or using a digital app like Procreate.

Step 1 - Create the Ring Base Shape
Use a sketching medium like a pencil to create the base shape of a ring to use as a guide. Start by drawing a circle in the center of your drawing area. This will be the base of your ring.
Create the band by drawing two ovals through the center circle, as in our example sketch below.
Alternatively, you can create a direct view of your ring. Simply draw two lines on either side of the circle with a rounded end.
Step 2 - Design your Ring
With the base shape created, it’s time to design your ring. First, we will add a pattern design, then prongs and add gems or diamonds.
Pattern Design and Prongs
Around the circle, create a pattern design. Use your creativity to illustrate a custom piece of jewelry clipart. This can be anything from curls on the sides to florals or leaves. You can make your pattern design as minimal or intricate as you want, mirror them on either side of the center, or create something unique.
Then, add seed shapes around the circle base for the prongs to hold a gemstone in place (shown in blue).
Add Diamonds
Looking at our example sketch below, draw geometric lines for the circle's center. Then draw diamonds that are smaller in or around your pattern design.
Step 3 - Outline your Ring Sketch
Once you have your sketches made, swap your pencil for a permanent one. Use something like a pen to make a defined line art.
Outline the Ring Design
Start tracing sketches of your ring design that aren’t obstructed. Think of elements like the pattern design and prongs.
Then, carefully line your gems and diamonds, defining the outer shape and geometric lines.
Define the Band
After making your ring outline on the design, trace the band lines. If you want to add any extra line work or details, do that now.
Step 4 - Add Color and Shading to your Ring
In our final step, we will color, add shading, and add the illusion of sparkles. For the color palette, work with a metallic color palette for the band and designs and any color you want for the diamonds.
Apply your Colors
As you apply your colors to your ring, think of areas that would be darker, like a shadow. Add lighter and darker colors with a texture brush like these Procreate chalk brushes.
Apply the exact coloring and shading method to the gems. Use light colors in the center and gradually go darker toward the edge.
Add Sparkles
Make your artwork glamorous by adding white highlight lines, glare spots, or stars. Add realistic glitter effects to your glam clipart with glitter pens.
Fantastic job on drawing your beautiful ring! Why not design a couple more with different designs and colors? We hope you enjoyed our step-by-step tutorial and drawing fancy accessories for your next craft or project.
