Bed drawing - end result

Add unique touches to your bed illustration to create themed artwork to match your crafts and projects. Whether you add a pop of color or personalize it with custom text in a fancy script font, the possibilities are endless.

Use your favorite art media, traditional tools like paint or crayons, or cutting-edge digital software like Procreate and Adobe Illustrator. Our FREE drawing tutorials are designed to be flexible and adaptable to a range of skills and styles.

Step 1 - Create the Bed Base Shape

To get started, grab a sketchbook or tablet and a sketching tool. Lightly sketch the base shape of the bed with a pencil or light-colored medium. For our bed drawing guide, we are creating a bed viewed from a side angle. Use tools to help you design in perspective, like Procreate drawing guides.

Start drawing a rectangular shape at an angle for the headboard, as we did with red in our example image below. Then, connected to the bottom of the headboard, sketch a larger rectangle for the bottom shape of your bed.

Sketch the shape of your bed

Add dimension to your base sketch by recreating the bottom shape close to the bottom of your bed (shown in red). This will be the maximum height of the mattress.

Step 2 - Add Detail to your Bed Sketch

Your bed's shape has been sketched, and now it's time to add details to your drawing, like pillows, legs, and a blanket. Remember to keep your details in the same perspective as your bed. In our example, we added rectangle shapes on the headboard for the pillows, a line close to the bottom for the base frame, and added the bed legs.

Sketch the bed legs and pillows

Next, we sketched lines on the headboard to add texture and shaped the bottom of our pillows. Then, draw curves on the sides and corners to draw a blanket. Before you move on to the next step, add other elements you want, such as throw pillows, multiple blankets, or a rug.

Step 3 - Permanently Define your Bed Outlines

For our third step, swap your sketching medium for a permanent one to begin outlining your rough sketches. You can use a pen or liner to make a monoline line drawing or add texture to your outlines with an inking brush.

Make sure you pay close attention to your rough sketches and which ones you want to make permanent. Carefully trace your sketch lines to make them darker and more defined.

Outline the outer shape of your bed

Begin by tracing your bed's outer sketch lines, as seen in the above image. Then trace and line the blanket, pillows, and bottom baselines.

Lastly, outline the little details on the headboard, and add line detail to your blanket or pillows. Feel free to add a design to your blanket to finish your permanent lines, and once you are done, erase your rough sketches.

Step 4 - Apply Color to your Artwork

Add color to your drawing with colored pencils, watercolors, or markers to create vibrant and eye-catching furniture clipart. Use colors on hand or get a ready-made combination you can quickly apply to your artwork. Check out our color palette collection for metallic, seasonal, or special occasion color schemes.

Apply your colors to your bed

Great work on completing our drawing exercise! Your bed drawing will go perfectly with other bedroom clipart. Why not create different types of sleeping spaces, such as bunk beds, add more pillows, or draw a couch to add to your digital library?
