How to make Procreate Stamp Brushes
In this tutorial you'll learn how to create your own Procreate stamp brushes.
Procreate stamp brushes are a great tool to have. They can be used to add creative elements like leaves or base models for drawing. The stamp brushes can be customized and new brushes created with ease. In this tutorial we are going to create a stamp brush in Procreate. If you are short on time, check out the Procreate stamp brushes available on Design Bundles!
Before we get started, make sure you have read our in-depth guide on creating your own Procreate brushes. This guide will show you how to make the shape source, grain source, and more.
I am using a Procreate Marker Brush. I will be using a pumpkin that I drew as my shape source. You can draw any design and use that as your shape source. I will show you how to save your image and begin the process. Let's get started.
Step 1 - Create and save your shape source
Draw the shape you'd like your stamp brush to be. Make sure to draw the shape in black, with the background white.
Next you'll need to save your design. Do this by going to the Actions option at the top and selecting Share. Choose a file format and select Save Image. Procreate will ask if it can save to you Photos, click Ok.
I like to save it as a JPEG to my camera roll for easier access. However you can save it to any location of your choice.
Step 2 - Create a new brush
Now we can create a new brush with our shape. Click on the Brush option top right to open the brushes library. Select the + symbol in the top right corner of the brush library.
Step 3 - Edit the brush shape
In the Brush Studio we can import and customize our design. Select Shape on the left side menu then select Edit on the top center. Choose Import > Import a photo then select your photo.
Tap your shape with two fingers to invert the shape. This will change the background to black and focus on your shape. When this is complete, select Done top right.
Step 4 - Change the stroke path
Now we will change the stroke path. Select Stroke path from the menu on the left side. Adjust the spacing to your preference. When creating stamps, I like to change the spacing to maximum. This will allow only one shape to be stamped at a time. When you are happy with the result select Done in the top right corner.
Step 5 - Use the new brush
Your stamp is now ready to use. You can find the new stamp in the Brush Library. Select the new brush and proceed to draw on the artboard. The brush can be adjusted at any point by tapping on the brush under the Brush Library. This will bring up the Brush Studio and you can adjust as you need.
You can now use the stamp to easily add a creative element to your design. If you enjoyed this tutorial, you may want to check out our guides on using color palettes in Procreate, and designing a seamless pattern in Procreate.
