Antonym Practice example image 1

Antonym Practice

Antonyms can be tricky sometimes. Trying to remember what they are (opposites) can be difficult. I always reminded my children that “anti” means against, so “antonym” means against or, in other words, opposite. Whereas the word “synonym” starts with the same letter as “same”.

These worksheets concentrate on antonyms. There are similar worksheets that concentrate on synonyms, if you need to practice those as well. Go on DesignBundles.net and look for Synonym Practice.

On one side of the worksheet, the children match the antonyms in the two columns. On the other side of the worksheet, the children will write an antonym that goes with each of the words given. Remember that there can be multiple antonyms for each word, so if you are confused about one that a child wrote, talk with them about what their thinking was. You may see it from their point of view.
