Learn how to use the pen tool to draw a straight line in Affinity Designer.
In this tutorial we will be using the pen tool in Affinity Designer to draw our straight line. Straight lines are great for creating single line SVG designs. These designs can be used for Foil Quill, sketching pens and Glowforge. They can also be used to divide design elements while creating interest and structure.
Let us begin by opening Affinity Designer and creating a New document.
We will be using the Vector Pen to draw our line. The Vector Pen tool is located on the left hand tool bar and is depicted as a fountain pen. Select the Vector Pen tool to activate it.
Position your mouse where you want to start your line and click to place the first point. Hold down Shift then click again where you want the line to end.
Holding down shift allows you to make a perfectly vertical or horizontal line. It will also allow you to draw a perfectly straight line at 45 degree angles.
Now that your line is drawn you can edit it as needed. You can adjust the width and color of the stroke with the options at the top of the screen. Alternatively adjust color and width under the Stroke Panel on the right hand side.
You can move the entire line by clicking and dragging it. You can also use the Node Editing tool to adjust the ends. Select the Node Editing tool on the left hand side. Then click and drag either one of the nodes to change the angle of the line.
Quick as that you have created a perfectly straight line. If you enjoyed this tutorial you may also like our tutorials on using the shape tool in Affinity Designer, adding or subtracting from objects, and making a mandala in Affinity Designer.
