How to use QuickShape in Procreate
Learn how to use QuickShape in Procreate to make straight lines, circles, squares, arches, and more.
For these examples, we are using a brush from the Procreate Lettering Brushes. You can check out how to install them in the How to Install and Organize Procreate Brushes tutorial.
To make your lines straight and your shapes symmetrical, you can use the QuickShape feature. It snaps hand-drawn lines, polylines, and basic shapes (arcs, circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, and triangles) into perfect shapes.
To use it, just draw your line or shape and keep your finger, Apple Pencil, or Stylus held down on the canvas, and after a few seconds, the line or shape will turn into a perfect and symmetrical version.
Using the QuickShape Feature
Step 1: Draw a Line
Draw the line or shape and keep your finger, Apple Pencil, or Stylus help down on the Canvas. After a few seconds, the shape will turn into a perfect and symmetrical version.
Step 2: Draw a Circle
If the shape is unequal, just keep holding it and place a second finger on the canvas to turn an oval into a circle, a rectangle into a square, or get an equilateral triangle out of an uneven one.
Step 3: Scale and Rotate
You can scale and rotate your line or shape. Just keep your finger, Apple Pencil or Stylus on the canvas and drag to adjust the scale and/or rotation while you keep holding on to them. To rotate your line or shape in precise 15 degrees increments, place a second finger on the canvas while dragging it.
Step 4: Customize QuickShape Settings
You can customize the QuickShape settings by clicking on the small wrench icon (Settings) on the top left menu, then select Preferences and then Gesture Controls.
Edit Shape Mode
Step 1: Edit Line in Edit Shape Mode
To edit your line or shape after you release it, tap on the Edit Shape button that will show on top of the Canvas. If you don’t want to edit, just tap elsewhere to dismiss the option. This will only work immediately after you release the line or shape, if you draw something else you won’t be able to edit anymore.
Step 2: Create a Polyline
Inside the Edit Shape Mode, you will find some options depending on your line or shape. They will appear as buttons on top of the Canvas.
Step 3: Adjust Shapes Manually
You will see that some nodes (blue dots) will appear in certain parts of the line or shape, you drag them to make adjustments on that part of the line or shape. To scale uniformly, drag the line or shape itself. When you are done, just tap inside the Canvas to commit the changes.
If you wantto fine-tune your brushes to make them behave differently depending on how you want them to look instead, you can check out thehow to draw lines smoother in Procreatetutorial tolearn how to adjust the StreamLine.
