Accessing glyphs in PaintShop Pro is quite easy using the Character Map on your PC. Glyphs are little fancy designs that are provided with the majority of fonts. They add flair, style and design to your text projects. In this tutorial we will show you how to access glyphs and add them to your text.
For this tutorial we will be using the Lovely Melissa Font but we have a range of modern calligraphy fonts to choose from.
Before you open PaintShop Pro, you need to install your fonts first. Once done, open a design or a new document in Paint Shop Pro.
Select the text tool on the left hand side that shows as a capital “T” icon. Now click within your document.
At the top of the screen where it says Fonts, select the font that you want to use.
Type in the text you wish to use in your design.
To access our font glyphs, we need to use the Character Map. If you are using a Mac, have a look at our tutorial on finding glyphs on a Mac. Open Character Map on your PC.
In the Font box at the top, either type in your font name or use the drop down menu. We selected the 'Lovely Melissa' Font.
Now go to the bottom of the window and check Advanced View. Make sure to change the Character Set to 'Unicode', then go to Group By > Unicode Subrange.
A new window will open called Group By. Now select Private Use Characters.
You will now see the character glyphs available for your chosen font, which in our case is the Lovely Melissa Font.
Click on the character you want to use by selecting it. You will get a bigger preview of the glyph when clicking once on it. To select it, either double click or click on the Select button. This will then add it to the box Characters to copy. Now, click on Copy.
Go back into PaintShop Pro. Double-click your text with the select tool to edit it, and highlight the character you wish to replace.
Press Ctrl + V or go to Edit > Paste to replace the highlighted character with your selected character glyph.
You can now access and use fancy glyphs and PUA encoded fonts with PaintShop Pro! Use glyphs across a wide variety of projects such as designs for wedding invites, HTV, card projects and so much more.
