How to Access Recolor in Procreate 5
In only 2 steps, we will show you how to find the Recolor tool in the updated Procreate 5 app
In only two steps, we are going to show you how to access the Recolor button in Procreate 5. With the update to Procreate, users gained access to a number of amazing features. New features are always fun, but wait a minute, what happened to the Recolor tool? Don’t worry, today we are going to show you how to access this very popular tool.
What makes the Recolor tool so amazing? The traditional way of adding a color fill to a design is by dragging + dropping from the Color panel. For larger designs, this is not really a problem. When it comes to smaller and far more detailed designs, this method can take much longer.
Recolor, on the other hand, allows you to select a color and simply tap the areas you want the color applied to. The ease of use is one of the reasons why this tool is loved by designers, creators and crafters. So let's get started and show you how to find the Recolor tool!
For this Procreate tutorial we will be using a highland cow design and this FREE bohemian Procreate palette. We are using Procreate V5.3.2.
Give your color library and your digital paintings a boost with our selection of color palettes for Procreate. Don’t forget to check out the FREE Design section for tons of crafting ideas.
Step 1 - Edit the Quickmenu
To install your palette, go to the folder where it was downloaded and tap once. You can also add a palette by using the Color Panel.
After you have installed your palette, open the Procreate app. The Procreate Recolor tool was initially found under the Adjustments panel, but now has a new home in the Quickmenu.
Open your Quickmenu with your selected method. If you are not sure what action opens the menu, go to Actions > Prefs > Gesture Control.
Next, tap on Quickmenu where you can see the assigned action. If no action has been assigned, you can do this now or change what action opens the Quickmenu.
Before assigning a new action, make sure it doesn’t clash with another tool. Procreate will show a warning sign next to a tool on the left-side menu where that action has already been assigned to.
Once the Quickmenu is open, tap + hold on one of the tabs. Then, scroll down until you see Recolor and tap to select. That’s all there is to accessing the Recolor button in Procreate!
When you need to use the Recolor tool, locate it in the Quickmenu, and you’re ready to add a color fill.
Step 2 - Add a Color Fill with Recolor
Your Procreate color palette can be found under the Color Panel. Select a color, such as a light brown, and then open the Recolor option. Color will be added to the area where your cursor is placed.
We do have a great tutorial on how to recolor in Procreate if you need more information.
The Flood fill bar at the bottom manages how much of that color spills over. You can adjust it if the area is not completely filled.
Tap + drag the cursor around to move the color fill to another area. Then, tap on additional areas you want to add the color fill to.
Tip: when changing colors, first tap on a new area. It will fill with the current color. Next, change the color and the area will fill with the new color.
Even though the Recolor option has been moved, it is still accessible and easy to use for your digital designs. It's a quicker option in comparison to dragging +dropping a color fill the traditional way. We hope that this tutorial has helped you in locating one of your favorite tools. Adding it to the Quickmenu can make your workflow more efficient and save you time!
