How to draw an Easter basket final result

Before you start with the steps in this tutorial, get all of your supplies ready. You can use any medium you have on hand to make sketches, outline, and color your Easter drawing.

In this drawing lesson, we are using the digital app Procreate with basic brushes. At Design Bundles, we have free Procreate brushes you can use to create your Easter basket illustration.

Step 1 - Create Rough Sketches of Your Easter Basket

We will create rough sketches of our basket with a sketching medium. You can use a pencil or a light-colored medium to make your rough sketches. If you are working with a light-colored medium, you will need to cover your sketches when outlining or adding color.

Create the Basket

Let's start our sketches by creating a basket shape. Looking at our example sketch below, draw a bowl-like shape for the bottom of your basket. Sketch a rough arch at the top to make the handle.

Shape your Easter basket and handle

Add Easter Eggs

Inside your Easter basket, above the bottom shape, draw Easter eggs. Draw oval shapes with pointy ends to make eggs. And draw a few that overlap, as we did in our example below.

Add Details to Your Easter Basket

Lastly, sketch your decorations and details for your Easter basket. For our Easter basket handle, we drew a bow in the center. And added flowers and a few leaves on the right side.

Add details to your Easter basket

Next, we created a woven basket texture by drawing lines that overlap each other. Feel free to add extra details to your Easter basket, like stripes on the handle or lace detail on the rim of the basket.

Step 2 - Outline Your Easter Basket Rough Sketch

In this step, create dark lines for your Easter basket using an outline medium. You can use any medium, like a pen, permanent marker, or black ink.

First, start outlining the elements or details that are on top of your Easter basket. For us, we outlined our bow and flowers, as they won’t be covered by anything.

Define the decorations on your Easter basket

Make sure you pay attention to your sketch lines, outline the basket, and add the weave detail you added. Remove your rough sketches when you are done with your outline.

Step 3 - Add Color to Your Easter Basket

Using your colored medium, you will add color to your Easter basket. You can use any color palette, from elegant colors to pastels and bright neon.

For our color palette, we selected three shades of brown for the basket, adding depth to the woven detail. For the bow, we used red and dull red to add depth. We used bright pastel colors like yellow, green, purple, and pink for our flowers and eggs.

You can add texture or shading to your Easter basket if you want to. We have a big selection of Procreate texture brushes that work perfectly for your basket.
