How to use SVG files in Canva
Posted on 20th August 2018
- Log into Canva and select your design.
- Select your layout, or you can use the search tool to find a background you would like.
- Insert your image/layout.
- Click uploads, then click on the green upload icon.
- Click on your SVG file. I am using Welcome to our firepit SVG file from designbundles.net
- Once the SVG is selected, one of two things will happen. If the SVG is a compound path it will automatically load into Canva. But if it is not a compound path you will get the following message seen below.
You will need to open your SVG into a 3rd party program to make sure the design is a compound path for it to upload into Canva.
Programs like Photoshop, Inkscape and Silhouette Studio Business Edition are a few that will be able to do this for you.
- I will be using Silhouette Studio Business Edition.
- Open the SVG file.
- Your design will appear.
- Right click on the design. Select the Make compound path option.
- Your design will need to be re coloured.
- Use the fill options to colour the design.
- Click on save to hard drive, then save the design as a SVG file.
- You can now go back into Canva and click on upload.
- Select the new file you created.
- The design will now appear in your uploads and you can select it to go on your design area.
-You can now change the colour so it is seen clearer on your background.
