Sure Cuts A Lot 4 Basics - Tracing a colored image

*Note- SCAL4 pro used.
1- Open SCAL4 software.

2- Open the trace window by selecting the trace icon on the top toolbar or going to File > Trace image.

3- Click on choose an image.

4-  Select your colored image. I'm using an image from the cute animals bundle.
Once selected click open.

5- Your image will appear in the preview screen. The red lines are the cut lines.

6- If you just want to cut the outline, say for example a print and cut, you need to select monochrome (1) and then click the use alpha channel option (2). The outline will just have a cut line around it.

7- If you want to cut each colored layer separate go to the drop down box and select the color layers option.

8- In the color layers option all the different colors should appear in the boxes. If they do not you may need to increase the color layers.

9- You can manually pick what layer you would like to cut. simply click on all the colors you do not want to cut and a red line will appear in those colored boxes. leaving only the color left that you want to cut. You can see below I have everything unselected apart from the mustard color.
When your happy click on ok.

10- As you can see only the mustard part of the image has been traced.

11- If you have all the colors selected and click OK, it will appear that the whole image has imported for you.

12- But if you select the image and right click on it, you can ungroup the image. This will separate the traced layers.

13- You can now separate each layer to cut and then you can layer the cut files.

14- Another option is the single color option. You can select this in the drop down list.

15- For the single color option, double click on the color box(1). Then you can select any part of your design(2) and that specific part will be traced. You will see the traced area with a red cut line.
Once you are happy click OK.

16- As you can see the area selected has been imported into your design space.
