How To Create Text to Path in Silhouette Studio
Discover how to use the Text to Path feature in Silhouette Studio with this easy to follow tutorial.
Creating text to path in Silhouette Studio is essentially curving text to a shape. This can be a typical shape like a circle or a drawn path. You can customize your text to almost any shape you want. In this tutorial we will show you a quick way to curve your text in Silhouette Studio.
For this tutorial we are using a clean sans serif font called Fresh Squeezed Font Duo. We have tons of awesome Modern Sans Serif fonts to choose from if you would like to use something else.
Step 1 - Create your Path or Shape
Open Silhouette Studio, then go to the left side toolbar and click on the Drawing Tools icon. You can also use other flexi shapes if you want.
2- Draw a circle.Select Draw an Ellipse, then click + drag out a circle shape. If you hold Shift while clicking + dragging, the shape’s dimensions will be constrained..
Step 2 - Add your Text Object
Now we are going to add out text to the shape.
On the left side toolbar, click on the Text Tool that looks like a capital “A”. We have a very helpful tutorial on creating and editing text in Silhouette Studio to get you started.
Once you have typed out your text, click on the Text Style panel on the right side. Now change the font to what you want.
If not already selected, click on the text to select. You will notice on the left side of the text, there is a circle with directional arrows. Place your cursor over this icon. Then, click + drag it to the shape.
The text will attach itself to the circle and follow the curved path.
You can move the text on the path or to another part of the shape. To do this, click + drag the directional arrow circle. You can even move the text to another shape/path.
When the text is on the path, a small slider appears to the left of the handle. Sliding this back and forth moves your text from the top of the path to the bottom.
Step 3 - Convert Text to Path
The final step is to convert the text to a path. This will allow you to keep the changes you made and delete the shape. Note, once you do this, you will no longer be able to adjust the text along the shape. So make sure you are happy with your text first.
Now, right click > Convert to Path.
You can go ahead and click on the shape that you used to create the path. Hit Delete on your keyboard as you no longer need the shape.
Once converted to a path, you can resize the text then add color using the Fill Panel on the right. You can even use custom color settings for your text object. To edit specific areas of your text, you can use the point editing tool in Silhouette Studio.
Being able to change the shape of your text allows for greater flexibility with your projects. You can creatively add text designs to t-shirts, logos and much more. We hope you enjoyed following this tutorial and can apply what you have learned to your designs.
