How to Use the Puzzle Feature in Silhouette Studio
In just 4 easy to follow steps discover how to use the Puzzle Feature in Silhouette Studio.
In today’s fun and easy tutorial, we will show you how to use the Puzzle Feature in Silhouette Studio. This feature is only available in the Designer Plus and Business Edition. Puzzles are a great gift for anyone. So let us show you how to create your own. We will also show you how to resolve an issue of disappearing images.
For this tutorial we are using this heart pattern clipart but we have tons of great Heart Pattern Backgrounds to choose from.
Step 1 - Add Registration Marks
We will need to set up the registration marks in order to print our design. After opening Silhouette Studio, click on the Page Setup icon on the right side.
Select the option to turn on the registration marks. You can adjust the settings but, keep in mind that you want them clear enough for the machine to read.
Step 2 - Use the Puzzle Feature
Drag and drop your image onto the work area. Now, position using the Move Tool left toolbar. Make sure that the design is placed without the red cut lines and registration marks. You can use the image below as a guide.
On the right toolbar, click on Open the Puzzle Panel.
Next, make sure that your image is selected.
In the Puzzle Panel, click on the button that says Puzzle Selected Shape. Puzzle cut lines will now appear.
Step 3 - Edit the Puzzle Feature Settings
Go to the options for the Puzzle Layout. Here you can change the number of pieces using the Rows and Columns sliders.
You can turn off the curvature on the puzzle pieces. To do this, un-tick the Curvature box option under Puzzle Settings. You can go back and tick this box at any time.
When the Curvature is selected, the Curve, Ripple and Wobble of the puzzle can be adjusted.
If you want to make the pieces random, you can click on Randomize Selected Puzzle. The software will decide how to place the pieces. You can click on this option more than once to get the best result.
Step 4 - Turn Grouped Images into a Puzzle
The way you create a puzzle with several grouped images is slightly different. In the image below, we have grouped six images together.
When you click on Puzzle Selected Shape, the grouped images will disappear. Don’t worry, we just need to follow an extra step to make this work.
Use the Undo option to go back one step so you can see your image.
On the left side toolbar click on the Drawing Tools icon to open the shape options. Now, choose the Rectangle Shape tool.
Click + drag out a rectangle around the grouped shapes as shown in the image below. Make sure to center your grouped images in the rectangle. This is because we are going to use the rectangle as the basis for our puzzle.
Select only the rectangle, then click on Puzzle Selected Shape. You will now be able to see the puzzle pieces as well as the images.
Finally, once the puzzle is ready, make sure that the line width for everything is set to 0.00. You can do this on the top toolbar. This will make sure that only the design is printed and not the cut lines.
Now, print your design. Once done, load the media onto your cut mat, choose your cut settings and send to cut.
It’s that easy and simple to create a customized puzzle for everyone to enjoy. You can print photos and create lovely memories as gifts for loved ones. We hope that you enjoyed following this tutorial on how to use the Puzzle Feature in Silhouette Studio.
