Wavy Text in Illustrator

Posted on 22nd February 2018
For this Tutorial, we will use Highliner Bold Free Font from Anton Chernogorov.

1 - In Illustrator create a “New Document”.

2 - Select the “Type Tool” (T), choose your font (we used Highliner Bold) and type your text. Use “Align Center” in the “paragraph” Panel. The size will depend on your font and the size of your document.

3 - If the separation between your two words is too much go to the “Character” Panel (Command/Control + T) and change the “Leading”.

4 - Go to the “Appearance” Panel, select the “Characters”, click in the “Effects” Menu at the bottom of the Panel, and choose Warp > Wave.

5 - Make sure you checked the “Preview” box and use a 30% “Horizontal Bend”. Or play around with the percentage until you are happy.

6 - To make the two lines of text the same length, use the “Type Tool” (T) and select the shorter line. Go to your “Character” Panel and in the top-right corner click on the 4 bars to bring out the drop-down menu and choose “Show Options”. Then, increase the “Horizontal Scale” or the “Tracking” of your text line.

7 - If you want to change something just select your text with the “Selection Tool” (V) and go to the “Appearance” Panel. There you should see the “Warp: Wave” Effect thumbnail, double-click on it to open the dialog box.

8 - You can select each line of text with the “Type Tool” (T) and change the “Fill” color.

9 - And you can go to the “Stroke” Panel and add one with a 2 pt “Weight” and “Round Cap and Join”.

10 - Check your text:
