Sticky Notes in Silhouette V4.1
Learn how to use Sticky Notes in Silhouette Studio and keep track of your design information.
If you need to keep notes of your designs, then check out this tutorial on using Sticky Notes in Silhouette Studio. This feature is only available in V4.1 and later. Sticky Notes are great for keeping track of fonts used or adding further information for customers. In this tutorial we will show you how to create and use Sticky Notes in Silhouette Studio.
We also have a quick visual guide on three great ways to use Sticky Notes in Silhouette Studio.
To show how this feature works, we will be using a lovely calligraphy font called Hey Beauty and this dog heart SVG.
So let’s get started by opening Silhouette Studio, we are using V4.1.479. We also give you a quick overview of the Sticky Notes in V4.4 and higher towards the end of the tutorial.
Step 1 - Add a Sticky Note
In Silhouette Studio, on the left hand side, click on the icon Draw a Note. You can click anywhere on the mat to place the note. Now, begin typing your note. As you type the box will automatically adjust to accommodate.
When you save as a Silhouette file, the Sticky Notes are also saved
Step 2 - Edit the Sticky Note
The size and placement can be adjusted with Sticky Notes. To edit the text, double click to enter text edit mode. You can also right click > Edit Text.
Resize the Sticky Note
On each corner and side of the Sticky Note you will find blue squares. These are your adjustment nodes. Click + drag on any of the nodes to resize the box.
The Sticky Note will not resize smaller than the space occupied by the text as shown in the graphic below. When dragging the middle top node down, it would only decrease the box size to the edge of the text.
Reposition the Sticky Note
To move the Sticky Note around, move your cursor over the note until it changes into a hand. Once it does, click + drag the Sticky Note to where you want it to be placed.
No matter where you place the Sticky Note, it will not be cut by your machine. As you can see in the image below, even with everything selected, the Sticky Note does not have cut lines. So you can safely position your notes without worry.
Create Duplicate Sticky Notes
Multiple Sticky Notes can be added either by clicking on the Sticky Note icon or holding Alt + clicking to duplicate. You can also right click > Duplicate.
Delete the Sticky Notes
What if you no longer want the Sticky Note? Now, you should be able to right click > Delete. However, this doesn’t always seem to work. Even when selecting the note and hitting Delete on your keyboard, nothing happens.
If this is a problem you have been facing, just simply click + drag a selection box around the Sticky Note. Then, hit Delete on your keyboard or right click > Delete.
One thing to note, if your Sticky Note doesn’t contain text, you can’t won’t be able to delete it. So if you create a note but decide you don’t want it, add some text, or a letter. Then you will be able to delete it.
Use the Sticky Notes
Sticky Notes can be used in so many ways but a particular favorite is storing information. This is important when editing text such as welding. Font information is lost as the text is turned into an object.
The image below shows the font information before welding.
The result below, after welding the text, no longer shows a selected font.
This is where Sticky Notes comes in handy. Create a Sticky Note then add the name of the font and where it was purchased.
You may even want to add information on suggested media cut settings for projects like Print and Cut.
To save the Sticky Note with your file for later, it needs to be saved as a Silhouette Studio V3 format.
You can always go back and edit the text or add more Sticky Notes in Silhouette Studio.
Sticky Notes in Silhouette V4.4 and Higher
If you are using Silhouette Studio V4.4 and higher you will notice a change when attempting to resize. In the later versions, Sticky Notes adjust according to the text input and do not have sizing nodes.
You can, however, resize from the corner where you will see two lines. Click + drag on these two lines to the left or the right. You won’t have the same flexibility as sizing nodes as seen in the graphic below.
To delete a Sticky Note, just click the “X” top right. You can also change the font using the Text Style Panel as well as the color with the Fill Panel on the right. Alternatively use the toolbar options top left.
All other editing options also apply to Sticky Notes in V4.4. and higher.
Use the Sticky Notes to add further information to your file when sharing with friends, family and customers. We hope this tutorial has been helpful and adds to your knowledge of Silhouette Studio.
