How to Make a Postcard in Pixascape

We will be using a photo from a bundle containing photos of Greece, but you can use photographs that you’ve taken to showcase your own travel experiences and memories.

Before we start, open your image. Make sure your image either has an aspect ratio of 3:2 or is not zoomed in too close, as we'll be cropping the image.

Postcard Front Side

Step 1 - Crop Image if Needed

Again, if your image is not of a 3:2 aspect ratio, you will need to crop your image following this step. If you want your postcard image to be more zoomed in, you can use this step for that as well. Open the Crop function from the Edit tab. Then click the Aspect Ratio dropdown, scroll down, and select Image 3:2.

Shows Aspect Ratio, Image 3:2, selected with Aspect Ratio locked, and a crop preview on the image.

Click + drag the crop preview to move it and/or resize the crop preview using the handles on the corners. Click Apply once it’s where you want your postcard image to be.

Shows the crop preview being moved around and scaled down in Pixascape.

Step 2 - Resize the Image

Next, we will resize the image to be 6x4 inches or 1800x1200 pixels. In the Edit tab, click on Resize.

Image shows that you need to click the Edit tab first and then Resize in Pixascape.

Make sure Lock Aspect Ratio is enabled, then enter 1800 for the Width. Click Apply to commit the change.

Image shows Lock Aspect Ratio enabled with 1800 in the Width. Click the Apply button.

Step 3 - Add a Frame/Border

We will add a solid white frame/border to the outer edge. Click on the Frames tab and select Custom Border.

Image shows that you need to click the Frames tab and then the Custom Border option in Pixascape.

Edit the following settings in Custom Border:

  • Outer Border Color: White
  • Outer Thickness: 10%.
  • Inner Thickness: 0%.

Leave the rest of the settings and click Apply.

Shows the settings we used to achieve our white border.

Feel free to use one of the fun, creative Pixascape frames if you’d like.

Step 4 - Add Text

Select the Text tab on the left and click the blue Add Text button. Enter your text and edit the settings to your liking. We used the following settings for our “GREETINGS FROM” text:

  • Font: Proxima Nova
  • Font Size: 86
  • Color: White
  • Line Height: 20%
  • Outline Color: White
  • Outline Width: 34%
  • Shadow Color: Black
  • Shadow Blur: 80

Click the Text tab and Add Text button. Then enter your text and edit the text settings.

Next, Copy (Ctrl/Cmd + C) and Paste (Ctrl/Cmd + V) the first line of text and type your second line of text. We typed “DESIGN BUNDLES” and increased the font size to 190. You can enter a city, state, or country name if you’d like. Then click + drag the lines of text to where you would like them. We placed ours at the bottom.

Image shows a second line of text has been added to the project in Pixascape.

Step 5 - Save/Export Postcard Front Side as a PDF

Save and export the front side of the postcard. Click Save at the top and select your save location. Enter a Filename and select PDF as that is the best option for printing. Move the Quality slider all the way to the right, and click Save. Your image will be downloaded onto your computer, and then you’ll be able to print it.

Click Save at the top, add a Filename, choose PDF and the best quality, and click the Save button.

Postcard Back Side

This part of the tutorial starts after finishing Step 2 above. You can use the same image as the front side.

Step 1 - Fill Image With White

Click on the Draw tab on the left and click on the blue Add Drawing button. Use the following settings:

  • Color: white
  • Size: 55%
  • Softness: 0%
  • Intensity: 100%

Leave the rest of the settings at default.

Click the Drawing tab and then Add Drawing button. Edit the brush settings.

Then draw over the entire image, and click Apply once the entire image is white.

Draw over the entire image with a large white brush in Pixascape.

Step 2 - Add “POSTCARD” Text

Click the blue Add Text button in the Text tab. Double-click on the text and enter “POSTCARD.” Modify the text options and align the text to the center near the top.

Add the text "POSTCARD" to the center of the postcard near the top.

Step 3 - Create Vertical Center Line

Type Underscores

Click Add Text button again. This time, type a bunch of underscores (‘_’) to create a line.

Image shows a horizontal line that was created with a bunch of underscores in Pixascape.

Rotate Line

Click the blue circle on the right side of the line and rotate the line until it is as straight vertically as you can make it.

Click the blue circle on the right side to rotate the line to make a vertical line.

Move the line to the middle under “POSTCARD.” You can still double-click on the line to add more underscores if the line is too short.

Move the vertical line under "POSTCARD" in the middle.

Step 4 - Create Address Lines if Needed

This step is optional, but you can add lines for the recipient’s address if you’d like.

Create a line as we did in Step 3, but do not rotate the line.

Create another vertical line with underscores for the recipient's address.

Duplicate (Ctrl/Cmd + C, then Ctrl/Cmd + V) the line three or four times, so you end up with four or five lines total. Place the lines evenly spaced out on the right half of the postcard's back side.

Duplicate the vertical lines. Evenly spread out the lines on the right side of the postcard.

Step 5 - Save/Export Postcard Projects

Now all you have to do is save and export the back side of the postcard in the same way as you did the front side.
