How to Create a Knockout Effect in Cricut Design Space Mobile App
Step 1 - Type out and edit the text
Click on the big “T” at the bottom of your screen to type out your text. If you are new to the Cricut app, we have a full tutorial on using the text tool in Cricut Design Space app.
Next, reduce the letter and line spacing if necessary. This will bring the letters closer together and will help when we knock out the shape. Click on the Edit icon on the lower toolbar. Once you do, another toolbar will appear right above it. The Letter and Line Spacing Icon will be next to each other. Click the down circle with the minus symbol to reduce the letter and line spacing.
Step 2 - Insert a shape and use Slice
Create a heart by using the Shapes tool in Cricut Design Space. Now, Unlock and Resize, then rotate your shape to fit over your text. We will be using this shape to create a knockout within the text.
Select your text and heart and click the Slice button. We have a full tutorial on using the Slice tool in Cricut Design Space App to get you started. Using the slice tool can help you create Split Monograms in Cricut Design Space as well.
After slicing your items, pull apart your heart shape as you can see in the image below. You will have a heart shape with solid letters which is the one we will be using today.
Place the heart back in the text knockout and you will now be able to cut out this design.
Step 3 - Create your Cut Project
After creating your knockout design, you can now choose what type of cut project you would like to create. To cut both layers separately, click the Edit icon and then click the small circle near the word Cut. A window will appear and you will be able to click the down arrow to choose your line type. After doing so, click Apply on the top corner.
If you would like to print out this design, we have an easy-to-follow guide on using the print and cut feature in Cricut Design Space app as well.
